In Writing

Okay, I promise you I have a busy life and lots of things to do, but, yes, I did just spend an hour playing with a panorama app for Instagram.

For a long time I’d been wondering how the cool kids were making those panoramas on Instagram. If you’re an Instagrammer, you know that your pictures are laid out in a grid, most recent first. But some people have big images that span several images, as if they’d painstakingly cut a bigger picture into six or nine (or even twelve) squares. I’m not much of a graphic designer, so I thought the coolness would be beyond me. But… there’s an app for that!

To test it, I took a wide shot of my cool new living room leaner mirror that I bought myself as a reward for finishing my latest manuscript. (It’s like 7 feet tall. It’s a monster and I’m madly in love). And then I cut it up on an app called Giant Square and posted the pictures, one by one. I didn’t post the lower right hand square because that had the Giant Square logo on it, and I hate that. Maybe I’ll suck it up and buy the Pro version to get rid of the branding. Or maybe I’ll always lose the lower right hand square. We’ll see.

Stay tuned for much playful Insta-gridding in my future. I am giddily excited about this.
