In What's New, Writing

Diversity has been a buzzword in young adult literature this past year.  In particular, the We Need Diverse Books campaign has made a lot of strides in bringing attention to the issues of representation (and lack thereof) in books for kids and teens.  That’s why it was a special privilege to be invited to participate in the Issues in Representation Panel at the New York City Teen Author Festival in the New York Public Library this past weekend.  Hundreds of people attended and I got to sit up on the stage with 3 members of the We Need Diverse Books team, as well as YA legends Andrew Smith, David Levithan and Coe Booth.  And the wonderful Adam Silvera, who really knows how to make an entrance.  Wow!  Really cool weekend.
