I have a thing for container gardening. For all gardening, really, but there’s just something about creating a whole self-contained garden in a beautiful pot that makes me all giddy inside.
This morning, the angel on my shoulder told me I should get to my computer right away after dropping off my kids so that I could get all my work done before getting on a plane tomorrow (two planes, actually). The gardening devil on the other shoulder won out, however, and made me go to the local nursery to buy things to fill just one more container. Here is the result of that. (Hey, I was still at my computer by 9:30!). This is an old pot I’ve had for years but which, for some dumb reason, it never occurred to me to bring out front and center before. I don’t know if you can see from the picture, but it’s got a wonderful weathered finish that makes me feel like I pulled it out of the front of some wonderful old Tuscan village house.
I have a collection of containers out back. Some years when I’m especially motivated, they all get filled with gorgeous displays. Other years I slack and don’t get around to all of them. I think this is going to be a filled-to-the-brim kind of year. I am super motivated. Stay tuned for more pics.
And keep fingers crossed that this lovely, delicate display of cannas, rosemary, coleus, begonias, petunias and ivy isn’t toast after we get the monster thunderstorm that’s supposedly headed our way. They’re talking hail and all. I love love love a good summer rain, but if it messes with my flowers I am decidedly less for it.
