good choicesI’m back from New Orleans, sugarplums, although I kind of wish I wasn’t. Every time I go I’m reminded of what an amazing city it is. I definitely need to go back for a longer stay.

Here, in bullet form, are just a few of the things I saw. (Photo memories below).

  • The running of the bulls. Well, not the running of the bulls, but the much more fun and animal-friendly version in which roller-derby queens dress up as bulls and whack white-clad people with sticks. Everyone hammered by 10:00 a.m. This was my first day!
  • Gorgeous, quirky, local art. So much beautiful art.
  • Bourbon Street. I had to. The bar hop included one called The Dungeon (yes, creepy narrow entry way and skulls) and another called Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop (click here to check it out), whose claim to fame is using no electricity.
  • The Commander’s Palace, which ranks up there in the top five restaurants of my life. Former executive chefs Paul Prudhomme and Emeril Lagasse have left their mark. Every dish was better than the last. Click here to check it out. If you’re going to be in New Orleans… go!
