In Writing

One of my favorite bookstores ever in the history of ever is expanding… and the story of how they got there is great.

Hooray for Books in Alexandria, Virginia, hosted me when I was touring for the debut of THE SECRET SIDE OF EMPTY.  They set up a wonderful school visit and later had me do a Skype visit with their YA book club.  It was fascinating to watch them hand-selling books for kids and teens to their eager customers.  I was also blown away by their encyclopedic knowledge of books, from a familiarity with a dizzying array of upcoming debuts to a great grasp of trends and old standbys.  In short, it was a book lovers’ paradise.  (That was perhaps my favorite part of having a book out – meeting a world full of book nerds like me).

As this Washington Post story tells, when the space behind their store became available, they turned to a new way of raising money: crowd-sourcing through Indiegogo.  Their campaign was successful and the store is poised to nearly double in size.  Hooray!  I couldn’t be more excited for them.

If you’re ever in the Alexandria area, do yourself a favor and visit this gem.  It’s beautiful and about to get a whole lot more so.  Visit their website here.
