Hello, darlings. Apologies for so completely neglecting you these last few days. I had a jam-packed weekend without a moment to breathe (or write). I hope yours was as fun as mine was! Mine was chock full of entertaining at home by the fire, several outings (I hiked in like 3 different places), the movies, dinners and, of course, the obligatory Memorial Day barbecue.
I have a bit of an update for you on the wood oiling situation. Remember last week when I decided to coat all my wooden spoons in oil and stick them in the oven? Well, it was so much fun that I went searching for other objects to treat.
In my search, I found my wooden-handled gardening tool. I sanded it and scrubbed it, then subjected it to the same coconut and olive oil treatment the internet suggested for the spoons. It came out looking still aged but decidedly better.
When I was done, I put it back on my steps to be at the ready the next time I needed it. The next day, I found it halfway down the walkway, covered in ants. I bet some critter tried to run off with it. I would have paid money to see the look on its face when it realized it was just coconut-scented wood.
Note to self: edible oils stay inside. Use something else on the gardening tools.
Next on the adventure list: refinishing my Adirondack chair with tung oil. There are wasps chewing on them and I need to stop it in the most environmentally-friendly manner possible. (I run a no-insecticides house). The Internet says tung oil. Other suggestions welcome because I’m at a total loss.
